New Paving

If you have had to get around town or even just across it lately all the road work will have made it nearly impossible. The much needed improvements will last many years after the detours posted today. New curb and gutter along much of Main Street with updated handicap access. New pavement to all of Shelby's business area is now finished. In the photo below workers cover hot tar with gravel to protect the new paving below.

Downtown Uptown You Choose

The long awaited curb replacement and paving that NBMC reported on last year is finally happening. So far workers have been rapidly doing R & R with the old concrete on Main Street. In this case, R & R is not Rest and Relaxation instead it stands for Rip-out and Replace. They have been moving fast because Century Paving Co. is next in line to re-pave the business area of Main Street. That means cutting out about half the thickness of the old pavement before laying the new over the top. It also means one way traffic while the work is done.
